Title: Flash CS5 UI Lag

Hi all,

Me and a developer I work with have just recently upgraded to Flash CS5 in order to take advantage of the XFL conversion. However we have noticed severe lag compared to CS4 when navigating within files - for example, clicking through movie clips in the library within the UI can often give a lag of several seconds before the movie clip is displayed on the stage. I have a fairly top-end system as I am also a Maya user which still noticeably lags, and my developers mid range system lags so badly using CS5 that we have abandoned it and returned to CS4 until we can resolve the issue.

I was wondering if anyone has experienced anything similar and might be able to shed some light on this issue. One theory we had was that Flash CS5 might auto-update bitmaps every time a move clip is selected, but not sure - I am mainly front-end so am not incredibly technical, but if anyone has any idea's it would be great to hear.

Many thanks in advance,

Nick

Hey Nick , I have CS5 but it does not seems to have such bug. But I have read somewhere that its not working well on OSX. If you can mention your operating system, I can try to recreate it at my end.

Hi Warrior, thank you for your response :)

I am using Windows 7 and my dev is using Windows XP. It might also be worth mentioning that the files contain several hundred bitmaps (it is a units file containing several multi frame sprites) so this is why we thought it could be something related to a auto-update bitmap feature. I realise this is quite a large file but we had no such lag problems with CS4.

All the best, Nick

Hi Nick , I am using windows 7 32bit wit Intel Core 2 Duo 2.2 Ghz and 3Gb RAM. I have no such issues. Its working absolutely well. CS5 do not auto Update Bitmaps you have to do that manually from library , the reason could be use of too many bitmaps. If you can upload your sample file to some server I can check it by opening it on my system. Or you can try posting bug to Adobe at this link

Hi Rex, thank you for your advice! I am afraid I can't upload the files due to client confidentiality, but it is interesting to know that you are not having the same issues as us. I guess it must just be that Flash CS5 does not handle files containing 100's of bitmaps as well as CS4, but for what reason I am not sure.

All the best, Nick

I am using cs5 trial my installation is two days old without any issues. You can try downloading the latest one or check if there are any updates. Alternatively you can post bug to adobe team, since its a new product and there can be possibility of such but not captured by testing team.
